Unit 13: Final Major Project
week 5: 4/3/24 - 8/3/24
I had a conversation last Friday (1/3/24) with Sally Prout about consent and how we would be able to work this, as she is quite concerned about the younger pupils and getting written consent back. So, on Monday I made the decision to message Emily, one of the other pupils who I would like to be in the documentary and ask her if she would be happy to be in it. This conversation can be seen below.

Unlike with Chloe, I hadn’t mentioned this to Emily before so gave a little bit more context on the situation. Luckily, she said she would be happy to so that means I now have 3 pupils to be in it!

I have just realised I never talked about the third pupil. The third pupil is Ella-Mae, who I have spoken to in person about being in it and she has said she is more than happy to be in it. Ella is also one of the pupils whose last show it is and has been at the dance school since the age of 3, along with this she is in year 13 so currently studying for her A-levels. I know her personally so know she has a lot to say about her experience with dance and how she’s coping with exams + show.
Moving back to Monday, I emailed Sally stating who I was going to focus on and asked about how she wanted to do the consent. The initial email is shown on the right however to see the full conversation click the button below to go to the problem-solving section.

Following on from the conversation I had with Sally on Monday, I wrote a short paragraph explaining what I would be doing, so that parents could understand why I would be at the show filming. While I was emailing her I had a chat with Nigel, one of my lectures, about the consent for the show, which he said that what I should do is send the email I was about to, to Sally stating that if parents have an issue with it then email in if not we assume its okay, but to have Sally sign a form saying she’s happy for me to be filming. This is because the parents have technically already given consent to the children being on camera as the show is filmed by an external production company, so everyone in it has given consent to being on camera, I just need Sally to sign a form saying she’s happy to.

The rest of the week was focused on completing the audience research as this was the section I was behind on. This was very very tedious however it needed to be done and done soon, so I managed to get it done over the last few days of the week. However, on Friday, I had my second mentor meeting with Danny where he reviews my research that I had done. From this there were mostly cosmetic changes I needed to make + a couple areas that I hadn’t researched yet which I will do. However, though the changes need to be made, he did say that the work is really detailed and well done so I’m happy with that I just need to catch up with my schedule!
