Unit 13: Final Major Project
week 2: 12/2/24 - 16/2/24
This week started off with me completing my initial ideas, meaning I was ready to then move onto my chosen idea. Completing the initial ideas section meant I was able to do all of my write ups around the work as well, explaining my reasoning for why I did what I did. When it came to the chosen idea, for me I didn’t find this decision too difficult because from the outset I had an idea that I thought I wanted to go with, and through the further ideas development it has confirmed for myself that the one I want to go for is the Dance Show Documentary. After making the decision, I thought it would be best to start on furthering this idea so made a start on looking into the content, mode, and title ideas with more depth. I found that through undertaking these extra ideas development, I was able to start forming more content ideas for what could be seen visually. As I mentioned, I investigated title ideas in more depth as in the previous section I hadn’t at all. Personally, I struggle with finding title ideas, so this section was a lot harder for me, but I found that to think of title ideas I needed to think of what content is going to be included and work off that. From doing this I came up with the title ‘behind the curtain’ which is probably the title I am going to go for, as I also thought of a title animation that I could try and do in the research stage. The idea is to have the opening happen then have the title appear on the stage, and as the curtains close the title disappears behind them because the documentary is about what happens ‘behind the curtain’. It’s probably a very cliched title but I quite like it as it fits my idea well.

Doing the work towards the chosen idea took up more time than anticipated, so only got to the proposal towards the end of the week. I found that writing the proposal and action plan made me realise how much time I have to get work done, but at the same time how little time there is. Though there is little time, the action plan has really allowed me to understand the time allocated and plan out the work to the best of my ability, so I can ensure that it gets done in time. I found writing the proposal gave me time to think through the idea and rationalize my choosing for it, I was able to explore why it would be the best idea and how I can utilize my skills I have developed. Also, I realised how many skills I have learnt from this course, as when I started, I knew nothing about media production at all whereas now I feel confident in my abilities.
