Unit 13: Final Major Project
week 14: 6 - 10/5/24
On Monday, seeing as the End of Year show is next week, Flossy and I made the decision to go out and get the food for it, seeing as we are on the refreshments team. We had originally intended to get them last week with Molly, however this would’ve meant us having to go to Cirencester to meet with Molly to get them, when I live right next to a Tesco in Stroud, which to me didn’t make sense. So, I mentioned this to Flossy, which is why we went to get them today. We met at 12:30 and began hunting for the refreshments.

We had been given a budget of £35 from the leader of the show, Aimie, so we needed to stick to this. Previously Flossy and I had looked at what we could get for the refreshments, where we decided it would be best to have sweets (harribo) and popcorn to eat, as these are pretty universal foods which most people like; and for drinks, we had decided on orange squash, blackcurrant squash and water, as this felt like a safe decision and most people would like this. Obviously, we knew that we could divert and get other bits, budget dependent, so we started with getting the sweets and popcorn.

The sweet tubs were £2.50 each, so we got 2 Haribo Starmix and 2 Haribo Supermix, as this gives some variety, meaning we spent £10 all together on sweets. For popcorn we went for Tesco own as they were 99p each, so we got 3 sweet, 3 salted and 2 sweet & salted. We weren’t going to get the sweet and salted because we thought we could just mix the bags together, however we realised that this would cause a lot of mess when putting them into the bags, do er decided to get the two bags of mixed. This meant we spent £7.92 on popcorn, so the total of the sweet and popcorn came to £17.92. As this was the case, we moved on to getting the squash, which turned out to only be 40p each so we made the decision to get 2 bottles of lemonade as well because we realised some people won’t want just squash or water, so having an alternative would be nice. From this we realised we had a fair bit of our budget left, £16 total left, and Flossy suggested we should probably get some vegetarian/vegan sweets because harribo contain pig gelatine. So, seeing as we had more than enough left to spend, we got 4 bags of Fruitella which are a vegan certified sweet.

This meant we spent £26 total, roughly, which is within budget. I would say that this trip was successful because we stuck to the budget, as we were told, and we were able to change some things to fit the thoughts we had there and then. I think we achieved what we were told to as our role is refreshments.
On Monday evening I created my survey for the end of year show. I have made the decision to create a separate survey for the end of year show and my intended audience survey because I want to be able to analyse the reaction from my intended audience because they are who the production is made for. While the survey from the end of year show is still important, I want to be able to differentiate the responses and compare, allowing me to see if non-intended audience still like it. This survey can be seen below.
I had to create the survey tonight because we are sending programme to reprographics to be printed tomorrow morning, and we needed to create QR codes for the audience to scan to answer the surveys for the show. With this, I will mention we had told everyone on Friday that these surveys needed to be made for Tuesday 9am, and if people felt they were unable to create the survey, then Flossy and I would be more than happy to do this. But Flossy had messaged earlier today on the group chat to say she hasn’t received them all, so she asked me to send a more strongly worded message to hopefully get the message across that people needed to get them made or let us know and we will make one for them. The message I sent can be seen below.

From me sending this message I got one person message me, which was Dario, asking if we would be okay to create the survey for him and give him editing access for him to make the questions. Obviously, I was more than happy to do this, so I let Flossy know and she sorted the form out for him. This just means tomorrow morning we have less work to do and can get the programmes sent off by 9:30am.

Tuesday was more focused on me putting my work onto my website, as I finished the editing write up the other day. This always takes a lot longer than anticipated hence I dedicated a day to this. There isn’t much else to comment on as this day went pretty smoothly as I got everything onto my website that I wanted to and am happy with where I am. Tomorrow I need to export a 3-minute segment of my documentary for Jon so he can start putting it in the sequence for the show, and create my intro video, sadly.

With Wednesday, as I mentioned yesterday, I started with creating my intro video for the end of year show. This took multiple takes and wasn’t anything special
because I created it more last minute and had only a rough idea of what to say. I knew I needed to introduce who I was, why I couldn’t be there to present and what the audience are about to watch. As I’m only showing the end segment of the documentary I feel as though I needed to give a brief explanation of what the documentary is about as a whole and what the section they are about to watch. The final video can be seen below.

After creating this, when I got to college, I quickly exported the end section of my documentary and gave it to Jon. I decided to export the last section of my documentary because I feel it encapsulates the feeling, I wanted my documentary to have, and it feels right for the audience to watch this segment. Obviously, it will be a little confusing for the audience at the show because they have no context to what’s before this last segment, but I think that with the explanation in the intro video this will work well. Also, another factor that played into this is that the start section of the documentary doesn’t have a set point where I could cut it off, the section would have to be 3 minutes 45 seconds which wouldn’t be ideal, hence I made the decision to show the end section of my documentary.

Once Jon had it, he mentioned to me that I didn’t have a title card, as I didn’t think I would have enough time with my intro video to have one, but when Jon put it into the timeline there was enough time left in my 4 minutes for a title card. I made it simple with white text on a black background, using the same font I used for the title within the documentary. This is seen below.

On Thursday I created a second survey for Sally Prout, as mentioned previously I wanted a separate survey for the intended audience and the end of year show audience so I can compare the differences between the two. This survey contained a lot more questions, which are explored in LO7 in more depth. I feel that this is the best way for me to attain audience feedback, so tomorrow I will chat with Sally about potentially having her send it out to the dance school for them to watch.

Friday wasn’t a very productive day; however, I spoke to Sally in person. In this I asked about her sending an email to the whole school, I explained what the email about be about and that everything would come straight back to me. I know she was worried about people emailing the responses to her, where she would then have to send them to me, hence I reassured her that through using the software I am to create the survey all responses come straight back to me. After this conversation I said I would email her with the video for her to watch, as well as the survey for her to send out.
However, I forgot about this until Sunday (12/5/24) where I emailed her with the video and the survey link, this can be seen below.

Luckily, she responded within a couple of hours, shown below, asking for me to write a brief explanation to say what the survey is so that the parents can understand what it is for/who it is for. I will get this written up pretty soon so that she can get the email out to the parents asap.
